Are buyer's agents of value when buying property?

I am thinking about using a buyer’s agent to help me buy a house. This a pretty new idea for Australia, isn’t it? What do you think of these people?

You’re right that they are relatively new in Australia, though some states have had them longer than others. Meanwhile, they have been around overseas for a long time.

If you are inexperienced and buying a house, a buyer’s agent can really add value to the process but be very careful about the potential fees. Read the fine print and even ask what the total cost will be if you say pay $400,000 for a house. Make them walk you through the total service and the potential costs.

One thing these people can be good at is negotiations with owners and agents. They can have a great network of potential houses and they can find some great deals.

However, they’re not all of the same quality and I recommend you ask for testimonials to make sure you get a good one.

Also, compare the range of services offered – these can vary and can be critically important to value what you are paying for.
