  • Australia has imported a record number of roses in the lead up to Valentine's Day with more than 10.5 million rose stems brought into the country in the last two weeks! Figures from the Federal Department of Agriculture show the vast majority of imported roses were sourced from Kenya.
  • Toll road operator Transurban has almost quadrupled its first-half profits despite a muted increase of traffic. They reported a profit of $331 million for the six months to December 31, up from $88m in the previous period.
  • Julian Assange has lost a bid to have his UK arrest warrant withdrawn, with the judge saying the WikiLeaks founder should have the courage to come to court and face justice after more than five years inside Ecuador's London embassy. 
  • Close to 1.5 billion people around the world are getting ready for Chinese New Year. Thursday marks New Years Eve and celebrations will be in full swing as many welcome the Year of the Dog.
  • Speculation around Barnaby Joyce resigning has all eyes on 33-year old NSW tourism minister Adam Marshall who looks like the man most likely to replace Joyce. Mr Marshall, whose early political career has at times been overshadowed by a chequered driving record, did not rule out a move to Canberra.
  • Overnight in markets,tThe Dow Jones rose 0.16% at 24,640 the  S&P 500 also finished 0.26% higher at 2,662 and the Nasdaq 0.45% at 7,013. Over to Europe, FTSE finished weaker, 0.13% lower at 7,168 the DAX also lower, 0.70% at 12,196
