1. The Coalition has gained one percentage point in the latest Guardian Essential poll to trail Labor 49% to 51%, the same as the latest Newspoll. In the primary vote, the Coalition has gained one point to 39%, while Labor gained two points to 37%.

2. Bill Shorten has been declared the winner of the first leaders' debate in Perth last night, with 25 audience members voting Shorten as the winner, while 12 voted for Morrison and 11 remained undecided.

3. Sydney house prices have fallen 14.3% from their peak in mid-2017 and the median house price is set to fall below $1 million within two months even if declines continue to ease according to research from Domain Group published by the AFR.

4. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq again reached record highs during the first session of the week. The S&P 500 closed 0.11% higher to 2,943.03 and the Nasdaq rose 0.19% to 8,161.85, while the Dow Jones gained 0.04% to close at 26,554.39.
