1. The Coalition has narrowed the gap with Labor in the two-party-preferred vote according to the latest Newspoll published by The Australian, gaining one percentage point since the last poll to trail Labor 49-51. 

2. The first leaders' debate between Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten will be held in Perth tonight, with another debate scheduled for Brisbane on Friday.

3. Scott Morrison will announce $156 million in funding in an effort to protest Australians from cyber attacks, while Bill Shorten yesterday announced a $2.4 billion dental care plan for seniors, $4 billion in childcare subsidies and $537 million in wage subsidies for low-paid childcare workers.

4. Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq closed at record highs on Friday, gaining 0.47% to 2,939.88 and 0.34% to 8,146.40, respectively. The Dow Jones rose 0.31% to 26,543.33 points.

5. Thousands of people at Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane airports are facing major delays this morning after issues with an Australian Border Force system saw the SmartGate passport control machines fail.
