1. Bill Shorten has described the election campaign between Labor and the Coalition as being "hope versus fear" in an interview with the AFR. Shorten also said that Labor was commited to political stability, telling the AFR: "One Prime Minister every three years".

2. Malcolm Turnbull has criticised the US, UK, Canada and New Zealand for being "out-competed" by China on 5G technology. The former prime minister banned Chinese telecommunications company Huawei from Australia's 5G rollout last year.

3. Former Liberal Premier of Western Australia Colin Barnett has weighed in on a potential preference deal between Clive Palmer and the Liberal party, telling the ABC that "many Liberal supporters, perhaps soft or swinging voters, will react adversely to any sort of deal with Palmer".

4. Former US Vice President Joe Biden has announced he will run for President in the 2020 election. Biden previously ran for President in the 1988 and 2008 elections.

5. The Dow Jones fell 0.51% to 26,462.08 overnight after disappointing results for 3M saw it drop 13.04%. The S&P 500 slipped 0.04% to 2,926.17, while the Nasdaq rose 0.21% to 8,118.68.
