1. Prime Minister Scott Morrison has attacked Opposition Leader Bill Shorten's decision to match the government's commitment to not increase or introduce new taxes for superannuation. The Coalition has estimated that policies already announced by Labor would cost an additional $34 billion over a decade.

2. Following the release of research from the Grattan Institute yesterday that the Coalition would need to cut spending by up to $40 billion a year to fund income tax cuts while keeping the budget in surplus, Labor has begun a campaign that suggests this will cost an average of $4,800 for each household in the country.

3. Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said she would not challenge Senator Richard Di Natale for leadership of the Greens even if the party does not improve in the upcoming election.

4. The Dow Jones rose 0.26% to 26,452.66, the S&P lifted 0.05% to 2,907.06 and the Nasdaq gained 0.30% to 8,000.22 overnight.

5. Notre Dame Cathedral was within 15 to 30 minutes of being totally destroyed according to French officials. President Emmanuel Macron said that the cathedral will be rebuilt within five years.
