1. Theresa May's revised Brexit deal has been defeated in British parliament, with MPs voting 391 to 242 against the deal.

2. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has temporarily suspended Boeing's 737 MAX 8 aircraft from flying within Australian airspace. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the British Civil Aviation Authority have also banned the aircraft.

3. The Dow Jones fell 0.38% or 96.22 points overnight to 25,554.66, with a 6.11% decline in Boeing shares dragging the index into the negative. The S&P 500 rose 0.30% to 2,791.52 points and the Nasdaq also lifted 0.44% to 7,591.03 points.

4. Barnaby Joyce has denied he is planning to challenge Michael McCormack for the Nationals leadership, telling Today he has "no intentions whatsoever... to do anything but make sure Michael McCormack is the deputy prime minister".

5. Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, along with a number of other wealthy parents, have been charged with bribing college coaches and test centre administrators to help their children get into elite colleges as part of a US$25 million scheme.
