1. Prime Minister Scott Morrison will visit Christmas Island today, and will announce that refugees that are considered to be a threat to the community will be held in a detention centre on the island if they are medically evacuated from Papa New Guinea and Nauru.

2. Bill Shorten has described the next election as a "referendum on wages" in a speech at the Financial Review Business Summit today. "Our wages system, our remuneration system needs to be renovated to prepare our workforce for an economy that will change as much in the next 20 years as it has in the last 100 years," reads an extract of Shorten's speech published by the AFR.

3. Three improvised explosive devices have been mailed to buildings associated with London's Heathrow and City airports, along with one of the busiest train stations in the city, Waterloo.

4. Wall Street stocks dropped slightly overnight. The Dow Jones was down 0.05%, the S&P 500 fell 0.11% and the Nasdaq slipped 0.02%.

5. Bugatti has unveiled the most expensive new car ever built at the Geneva International Motor Show with the $26.6 million 'La Voiture Noire'.
