1. February was the best month for Australian shares since mid-2016, after the S&P/ASX 200 ended the month 304.4 points (5.2%) higher. The big four banks, as well as the materials sector, were among the strongest performers during the month.

2. After the US and North Korea failed to come to an agreement over nuclear disarmament and lifting sanctions during a meeting between President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un in Hanoi yesterday, the two countries have laid the blame on each other for negotiations breaking down. 

3. GDP rose 2.6% in the US during the fourth quarter of 2018 according to a US Commerce Department estimate, beating a predicted 2.2% rise by economists surveyed by Dow Jones.

4. The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all fell around 0.3% overnight following the meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.

5. Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has annnounced the Indian pilot who was shot down and captured during conflict between the two countries will be released today.
