1. Thousands turned out to protest the projection of advertisements for The Everest horse race on the Sydney Opera House last night, with many using torches and other lights to disrupt the projected images.

2. The International Monetary Fund has downgraded its growth forecast for Australia's GDP due to the ongoing trade war between the United States and China. The IMF currently expects GDP to grow 3.2% this year before falling to 2.8% in 2019.

3. The US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has announced she will resign at the end of the year for what President Donald Trump has described as "a little time off". Haley said she does not intend to challenge Trump at the 2020 presidential election.

4. Richard Branson has announced his spaceflight company Virgin Galactic is "weeks" away from launching their first rocket into space. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' company Blue Origin is also close to a space launch.

5. The director of a Hawaiian animal hospital has discovered that a gecko has been dialing her mobile from one of the hospital's phones.
