·      Apple has become the first $1 trillion publicly listed US company. The tech company's stock jumped 2.8% to as high as $US207.05, gaining around 9% since Tuesday, when its reported June-quarter results were above expectations.

·      President Emmerson Mnangagwa has won Zimbabwe's presidential election with 50.8% of the vote, according to officials. Hours before, violent clashes broke out between police and protesters supporting the opposition leader Nelson Chamisa. Riot police used water cannons and tear gas to control angry crowds amid allegations of a rigged election.

·      Food delivery service Foodora is quitting Australia amid multiple ongoing lawsuits. The fair work ombudsmen is currently suing the company for sham contracting and the Fair Work Commission is pursuing an unfair dismissal case. The company will close doors after August 20.

·      New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has returned to work after the birth of her daughter. She’s the nations first prime minister to have taken parental leave while in office.

·      Overnight in the US, the Dow Jones was flat at 25,326, S&P 500 +0.5% at 2,827 and the Nasdaq +1.2% at 7,803. Meanwhile in Europe, the FTSE  fell 1pc at 7,576, DAX dropped 1.5% at 12,546.
